I began exploring the stress reduction benefits of aromatherapy while working on several projects for the luxury brand Neom Organics in 2013, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Aromatherapy is about using essential oils and other aroma compounds to improve your health and wellbeing. A complimentary therapy with real benefits, aromatherapy has been used for hundreds of years and research into its use for stress reduction and mood boosting continues to this day.
While plant oils and herbs have been used in health settings for thousands of years, it’s commonly thought that aromatherapy as it’s understood today, first began in 1928 when the French Chemist Rene-Maurice Gattesfosse accidentally used lavender oil to successfully soothe a burn to his hand. Zoom forward to the here and now and aromatherapy can be enjoyed in a whole host of products and forms one of the most popular complimentary therapies on offer today.

If you prefer light floral scents this probably isn’t for you, but if you love a rich, deep scent you will love it. I keep it with my meditation cushion and use a little when I practice. Combining a specific fragrance with my meditation time really helps me to create an anchor for the day.

A dear friend of mine who also happens to be a women’s health expert gave me this essential oil as a gift and I fell in love with it. But fascinatingly, when I went to the shop to buy it for myself I wasn’t sure if it smelt quite the same as I remembered. I later learned from my friend that the appeal of a scent can change depending on where you are hormonally at the time. Fascinating, right?
