If This Isn’t Nice I Don’t Know What is
Many of us live with a feeling that something, somehow is missing and that this moment we find ourselves in isn’t enough or things aren’t as they should be.
Sometimes the source of our lack is obvious to us, for example: stressful life situations, health, family, love life, finances, endless responsibilities and to-do lists, dissatisfaction with something or other, things to organise..
Other times, and more commonly, the sense of lack isn’t about anything in particular and instead is a quiet unease in the background that accompanies and harries many of the day to day things we do, which actually in themselves are quite lovely and enjoyable.
In times like those, having a meditation and mindfulness practice can really help you to spot what’s happening and become wise to the habitual energies of the mind.
All this talk reminds me of a quote from Kurt Vonnegut:
‘And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.’
