Poetry = Jolt of new thinking
Did you know that journalists working for the New York Times national desk often start their meetings with a poem? In their recent piece ‘How Poetry Shakes Up The National Desks Morning Meetings’ they describe how a good poem can jolt our minds into thinking differently, reframing important stories in unexpected ways.
Poetry and meditation go together brilliantly and the sense of wellbeing and inspiration they bring is useful not only in business, but also in the field of psychology. This week I was excited to be back guest lecturing at the University of Westminster where I share my work combining poetry and meditation on the Psychology BSc degree programme. We cover a range of key topics such as the psychosocial benefits of shared reading and poetry as well as exploring the places where meditation and poetry overlap as wellness practices.
