Try This Mindful Journalling Idea To Stay Motivated On Your Wellness Journey
If I had a penny for every time someone said they felt amazing when they regularly meditated, or exercised or ate healthily, but they struggled to keep it going – I’d be a woman with many pennies! But let’s face it we’ve all been there. Changing our mindset and health habits can take a little time and dedication, but If you love how a regular wellness practice makes you feel you might like to try this mindful journalling idea to stay motivated on your wellness journey.
Mindful Journalling Idea One: Keep A Quote Book
‘There are many ways to journal and write therapeutically. One journalling idea I LOVE for its simplicity is the practice of keeping a note book that you fill with inspiring ideas and quotes that resonate with you. Populating your quote book is a fun and calming activity in itself. And re-reading passages from it over morning coffee is equally enriching.
It’s important to read something motivating each morning. The text doesn’t have to be spiritual, but certainly reading something that is inspiring to you – maybe in the form of a short piece of prose or a heart-warming quote – can help you to start the day firmly in your centre.
Keeping a quote book specifically for the beautiful insights you’ve garnered and the many things in life there are to be grateful for is time well spent because you can dip back into it for inspiration throughout the week.
Why is this helpful? Our conditioning – the way we have been brought up to see the world – is often heavy and multi-generational, so it’s good to keep reminding ourselves of those uplifting things we once read about and resonated with.’
Next week I’ll be sharing an hour long mindful journalling for wellbeing workshop here in the UK. If you’re Midlands or London based and would love to join in please email hello@emmamillslondon.com for details. (May 7th-15th 2022)

“I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see, and what it means. What I want and what I fear.”

Mindful Journalling for Wellbeing, Get Into It!
I am a big time stationary lover. Pens, note cards, highlighters, cards, journals and new note books (swoon!) I do use a computer to write my books and blogs but paper stationary is a big part of my creative life and I’m rarely ever without my note pad and pen. If I am I feel as though I’ve left something very important at home.
I once went on a motorbike touring holiday across the pyrenees mountains in France. It was one of those trips where you have to pack super light and only the essentials made the cut. Meandering through France on a bike, camping at the foot of the alps, eating french bread and cheese for supper and gazing up at the quiet stars each night was rather sublime. It was without a doubt the kind of experience that makes you want to write or create poetry.
I hadn’t packed a note book because I’d been trying to save on luggage space. But after a week on the road with no way to write I took a detour into the nearest town to buy a note pad and pen. I just had to be able to note down my thoughts. And having a note book meant I could jot down my poems, ideas and reflections while recuperating from our biking during our evenings cozied up at the local camp sites.
It’s my feeling that many writers and artists can’t help but write or create. Maybe you can relate to this too?
There are so many types of journal or note book to choose from today and my personal favourites are those that come with both lined and unlined paper. Like this Moleskin journal for example.
Try This Mindful Journalling Idea To Stay Motivated Every Day
To help inspire your journalling, here’s my pick of the best journals and writing accessories to stock up with. Light a candle, pour a cup of tea, turn over a new page and write something beautiful today.
1. Moleskin Classic (Ruled)
Moleskine – Classic Notebook, Ruled Notebook, Hard Cover.
3. Eco Friendly Bio Biros
I LOVE stationary. I use lots of it each month, and just this past year or so I’ve been trying to learn more about environmentally friendly pens. One option that might suit you is to use a special pen that’s also refillable. Another option is using a pen that contains less plastic and will degrade more easily. These eco friendly pens have 85% less plastic than traditional biros and are also recyclable when dismantled correctly. Lovely!
4. Paperchase calligraphy journal
Adding little drawings and doodles to your journal pages can make them more impactful when you leaf through them. Beautify your pages by brushing up on your calligraphy skills with this lovely little journal from Paperchase.
5. Plain paper Art Sketch Book Journal
Artway Doodle – Orange Leather Journal/Sketchbook – 150gsm Cartridge Paper – 175 x 125mm
6. Be Great, Be Grateful: A Gratitude Journal for Positive Living
Be Great, Be Grateful combines gratitude logs, creative exercises, playful prompts, uplifting quotes, and journal pages to create a three-phase program for cultivating gratitude. Developed by PATTERNITY, I was first sent a review copy of this as it was published by the same imprint as my book back 2017. It’s a lovely gratitude journal, UBER cool and stylish with lots of stunning patterns to look at and look out for in your day + many heart warming ways of thinking about the days happenings.
