Four Quick And Simple Ways To Bring Calm To Your Day-To-Day Errands
One of the simplest ways to practice mindfulness is to create small pauses in your daily routine. Three mindful breaths here or there during the day might not sound like much, but small gestures like this can make a big difference.
ONE: DAILY ERRANDS + COMMUTING
Pause for three conscious breaths while getting your hot drink, or while you ride the escalator, or wait for your train.
TWO: ELEVENSIES
Take a 5 minute break. Make a herbal tea, step outside in the fresh air. Look up, what can you see in the tree tops or sky? How does the fresh air feel on your cheeks? Read a poem from an anthology or listen to a great song.
THREE: CREATIVE RESET
Take a 60 second Gap meditation between finishing one task and taking your next inspired action. Clear direction for your best work often comes in unguarded moments.
FOUR: COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
Each night when you close your eyes in bed make it a point to say thank you for 3 things you are grateful for. William Wordsworth once said, ‘The world is too much with us, late and soon, getting and spending we lay waste our powers‘. Count your blessings and recognise the good that already is. It’s a great antidote to overwhelm and it helps to keep things in perspective.
